TapeSurf draws its charts with WebGPU. If your browser or your graphics card cannot run WebGPU, TapeSurf shows one of four errors.
Which error do you see?
- This browser can’t run the charts
- The charts can’t use your graphics card
- Your graphics card can’t start the charts
- The graphics card stopped responding
Some fixes below use addresses like chrome://settings. Paste each one into your address bar. Browsers do not allow a web page to link to these pages directly.
This browser can’t run the charts
This error means your browser has no WebGPU support at all.
Chrome
- Paste
chrome://settings/helpinto the address bar. - Let the browser update to the latest version.
- Relaunch the browser.
Edge
- Paste
edge://settings/helpinto the address bar. - Let the browser update to the latest version.
- Relaunch the browser.
Brave
- Paste
brave://settings/helpinto the address bar. - Let the browser update to the latest version.
- Relaunch the browser.
Firefox
On Windows, update to Firefox 141 or later. Check your version at Menu > Help > About Firefox.
On a Mac with Apple silicon, update to Firefox 147 or later, the same way.
On an Intel Mac or on Linux, Firefox does not turn on WebGPU by default. Use Chrome, Edge, or Brave instead, or see Advanced.
Safari
Update to macOS 26, iOS 26, or iPadOS 26. On iPhone and iPad, every browser uses the Safari engine, so the system version decides whether WebGPU works, not the browser you picked.
If a company manages your computer, a policy can turn WebGPU or hardware acceleration off. Ask your IT team to allow it.
Chrome on Android
Chrome on Android needs Android 12 and Chrome 121 or later.
- Update Chrome in Google Play.
- If your phone or tablet runs Android 11 or older, open TapeSurf on a computer.
If you use another browser on Android, open TapeSurf in Chrome.
Opened inside another app
If you opened this page inside Telegram, X, or another app’s built-in browser, open it in your regular browser instead. An in-app browser can lack WebGPU even when your regular browser has it.
The charts can’t use your graphics card
This error means your browser supports WebGPU, but it did not find a graphics card it can use. Common causes:
- Hardware acceleration is off.
- The graphics driver is old.
- The browser blocks the graphics card because of known driver problems.
- The browser runs inside Remote Desktop or a virtual machine.
- On Linux, Chrome turns on WebGPU only for some graphics cards.
Chrome
- Paste
chrome://settings/systeminto the address bar. - Turn on Use graphics acceleration when available.
- Click Relaunch.
Edge
- Paste
edge://settings/systeminto the address bar. - Turn on Use graphics acceleration when available.
- Restart Edge.
Brave
- Paste
brave://settings/systeminto the address bar. - Turn on Use graphics acceleration when available.
- Relaunch Brave.
Firefox
- Open Settings > General > Performance.
- Clear Use recommended performance settings.
- Turn on Use hardware acceleration when available.
- Restart Firefox.
Safari
Safari has no setting for hardware acceleration.
- Update macOS.
- Restart Safari.
Android phones and tablets
Android has no setting for hardware acceleration.
- Update Chrome in Google Play.
- If the error stays, open TapeSurf on a computer.
If hardware acceleration is already on
Then the cause is one of these.
Update the graphics driver
On Windows, install the latest driver from the NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel website, or run Windows Update.
On macOS, graphics drivers come with macOS updates.
Remote Desktop and virtual machines
Remote Desktop and most virtual machines do not give the browser access to a graphics card. Open TapeSurf on the physical computer instead.
Check the graphics card status
In Chrome, Edge, or Brave:
- Paste
chrome://gpuinto the address bar. - Find Graphics Feature Status.
- Read the WebGPU line.
“Hardware accelerated” means WebGPU works. “Disabled” or “Software only” means the browser does not use the graphics card. The Problems Detected section on the same page states the reason.
Your graphics card can’t start the charts
This error means your browser found a graphics card, but the card did not start the charts. Either the card does not meet a requirement, or its driver failed.
- Update the graphics driver.
- Relaunch the browser.
- Try another browser.
- If the error stays, contact support with diagnostics. This can be a TapeSurf bug, and the diagnostics help fix it.
The graphics card stopped responding
This error means the browser lost its connection to the graphics card while TapeSurf was open. Common causes:
- A graphics driver update. Windows Update can install one in the background.
- The computer woke from sleep.
- Another app overloaded the graphics card, and Windows reset the driver.
- An external monitor or an external graphics card was disconnected.
Reload the page to fix it.
If it happens often, update the graphics driver. Chrome also turns off hardware acceleration after repeated graphics crashes until you restart the browser. Restart the browser fully, not just the tab.

Advanced: Linux and blocked graphics cards
These settings bypass protections the browser turns on for known driver problems. TapeSurf is not tested with them. If the browser becomes unstable or the charts crash, turn the setting back off.

- On the TapeSurf error screen, click Copy diagnostics.
- Email the text to hey@tapesurf.com, or click Email support to fill it in for you.
- Say what you already tried.
The diagnostics contain the browser, the system, and the graphics card name. They contain nothing about your account or your trades.
